Reuse a couple of toilet paper rolls to create two lovely animal puppets.
Your kiddos will be delighted to stage their very own puppet show!
Essentials
For this DIY, you will need :
- our free template that you can download below
- coloured paper sheets
- poster paint
- 4 small caps, such as the ones on applesauce pouches
- 2 toilet paper rolls
- 2 skewers or chopsticks
- a few matchsticks or another skewer
- a candle or a lighter
- a paintbrush
- a white paint marker (Posca)
- a black marker pen
- a needle or a pin
- pliers
- some thread (red, brown and white)
- and… scissors

Step 1: trace all of the deer's components with a pencil, on tracing paper.2
Step 2: transfer these components on the corresponding coloured paper sheets. 3
Step 3: cut out all of the components. 4
Step 4: glue the snout and the eyes to the face.5
Step 5: and glue the ears.6
Step 6: and finally, glue the antlers at the back of the head.7
Step 7: use a white paint marker to create depth in the eyes and snout. Use a black paint marker to create the mouth.8
Step 8: cut out a piece of kraft paper (9,6cm high) and wrap it around the toilet paper roll. Glue it.9
Step 9: cut out the rabbit's template to colour it in.10
Step 10: with the colours of your choice, paint the face and ears.11
Step 11: with a black paint marker, create his eyes and snout.12
Step 12: proceed to draw the rabbit some cheeks.13
Step 13: cut and glue a piece of white paper around your toilet paper roll (9,6cm high).14
Step 14: paint the toilet paper roll in the same colour as the rabbit's face.15
Step 15: heat up the needle using a lighter.16
Step 16: pierce your little caps in the center.17
Step 17: then, paint them in the designated colours.18
Step 18: cut 4 long brown threads and 4 long red threads.19
Step 19: as seen on the picture, attach each thread to a small piece of a matchstick. 20
Step 20: insert the thread inside the cap.21
Step 22: attach all the other threads. Repeat steps 19 to 22 to create the other puppet's body.22
Step 21: punch a little hole and fasten the thread with a dot of glue and a piece of paper.23
Step 23: cut 6 white threads to create the rabbit's whiskers.24
Step 24: roll a piece of paper and glue it at the back of the rabbit's head.25
Step 25: glue the head onto the body.26
Step 26: repeat the previous steps for the second puppet.27
Step 27: insert very long white threads into the caps and fasten them.28
Step 28: glue a very long thread at the back of the head.29
Step 29: repeat the previous steps for the other puppet. Attach the threads to your skewer.30
Step 30: and your puppets are ready to dance!
